Meiyen Kennedy holding her new novel, The Ledger

The Ledger is officially published and available now in print through Amazon and Barnes & Noble. The eBook is currently in production and will be arriving soon on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Apple Books. I have been waiting a very long time to say those words.

And there is something especially meaningful about this release that many of you may not know: I actually wrote The Ledger before I wrote The Undistancing. Although The Undistancing was the first of my novels to reach your hands, The Ledger laid the foundation that helped me realize what kind of novelist I wanted to be. If you have read The Undistancing, you will likely recognize some of the questions I cannot seem to stop asking:

What happens when the things designed to protect us begin deciding who we should become?

What do we surrender when we trade freedom for certainty?

Who gets to define truth?

What happens when a system capable of measuring nearly everything encounters the one thing it cannot predict, optimize, or control—faith?

The Ledger takes place in a future where an extraordinarily powerful artificial intelligence quietly governs nearly every aspect of human life. The world is safer, more efficient, more predictable—and somewhere along the way, humanity has surrendered far more than it realizes. At the center of the story is Bridgett Kingsley, a young woman who begins questioning the invisible authority shaping her world and discovers that genuine faith, free will, grace, and allegiance to Jesus Christ cannot be reduced to data.

This book is dystopian. It is speculative. It is philosophical. It is unapologetically Christian. And underneath all of it is the question that became the heartbeat of the story: what happens when humanity builds something powerful enough to govern almost everything…only to discover there is still a higher Authority?

While I celebrate the release of The Ledger, I want to give a little love to the book that reached you, my remarkable readers, first. If you have not yet read The Undistancing, now is a wonderful time to meet that story, too. The two novels are completely separate works, but they share something deeply important to me as a writer: both use speculative fiction to examine the things we often accept without questioning—the invisible distances between people, the systems we trust, the assumptions we live by, and what might happen if we were suddenly forced to look at all of it differently.

Two published novels. Two very different worlds. Thank you to everyone who has encouraged me, supported me, read my work, shared my posts, bought my books, asked me what I am writing next, or simply believed in me. I love you all. The Ledger is here, and I cannot wait for you to enter its world. Faith. Control. Freedom.
